The Final Day of Regular Life

HISTORY NOTES:
Kerwin, Rogar and Therannal have known each other for the past couple years or more.
The Red Hand of Doom sacked the area about ten years ago

THE ADVENTURE:
The story begins in a tavern called the Rusty Blowfish located in Brindol. The Group is enjoying a nice evening after a full day of doing stuff. Rogar is facing the door, waiting for something to happen - as he is always prepared for battle. Kerwin is in the back eyeing some merchants who are fondling their loot (as he always is as well). Therennal is watching Kerwin to see how his luck holds out (bad and good).

Four hobgoblins bust into the bar. They are wearing clothing with The New Red Hand of Doom symbol, and randomly attack the patrons. The Group and a human Warlock jump to the rescue of the bar and ourselves. A fight ensues, three more hobgoblins come in after three have fallen - one felled by the human warlock who joined the fray - one goblin with bitumen torches also comes in with the three additional hobgoblins. The barkeep was caught on fire by a bitumen torch thrown by the goblin, but he was saved with only minor burns and life-long scarring. Two more hobgoblins come in, and one more goblin with torches joins the fight. By the end the first goblin got away but all the rest were sent to the Raven Queen by The Group.

We then met Rolin who was the warlock who fought with us against the goblinoids.

The attackers caught the tavern on fire so we had to escape. Kerwin took the time to save two bottle of something very flammable and drinkable. When we got outside a bucket line formed to put out the fire. Soon after the line formed we went to fight at another place in town because goblinoids are attacking the town (according to the local militia). However, an ogre pulling a cart with 2 goblins came around the corner throwing casks of flaming bitumen stuff. The two goblins were driving the ogre, firing arrows and lighting casks full of the flammable stuff. It was like the bitumen torches, except ogre-sized. The ogre was throwing the lit casks and swinging a massive club, beside pulling the goblin cart. Rolin is still fighting with us, and we combated this latest threat. Kerwin saved the day by lighting one of his saved liqueur bottles and hurling it into the goblin cart. After two explosions the ogre and one goblin were down. The other goblin got away. We got free drinks at the Rusty Blowfish (what was left) bar for saving every one and went to Avandrian hostel to stay, thanks to our good luck.

Efram Troyas wanted to talk to us after we rested for the night. He was a council man. We went to the building next to the Main Hall Of Valor, which is a tribute to the victory of the battle with the Red Hand of Doom ten years ago, to talk to Troyas who seemed interested in hiring us. Try as we did we could not get his complete trust, though. But we did get an agreement with him, and by completing it we might gain his further trust. The agreement is that we bring back the town heirlooms and seven people for 100 gold. I think the gold is for all of us, not each. So that will still be 25 gold each, plus the chance to try our luck in the field of adventuring, and the possibility to earn some trust.

This list is what we are to recover (we keep anything else we find):
  • 1 Ornate Gilded Dragon Crest Helm
  • 1 Ceremonial Platinum long sword
  • 3 shields with Red Hand of Doom symbols and chard in the center
  • 1 set of iron gauntlets with filigree
  • 1 heladric battle standard with two hands clasping
  • 1 Jalissa, an acolyte of Ioun (god of knowledge)
  • 1 Thurann, 3 year old son of the guard captain
  • 1 Kertenix, the guard captain
  • 1 Sertanian, custodian of ... (something)
  • 1 Mertalla, cook of ... (something)
  • 1 Zerriksa, Brindol Crone
  • 1 Andronsius, Alchemist in Brindol
The Group then went to interrogate one hobgoblin who was captured. He was being held in a public open stockade by two militia privates: Private Vankman & Private Peter - captain Braddock is in charge of the militia. We talked with Hobgoblin, Morick who told us little by gave us a map. They are the NEW Red Hand of Doom (who are not really associated with the 'old' Red Hand of Doom according to Rogar) and want to control the Elsir Vale. Sinruth is their leader and is a hobgoblin. The town captives will be used to feed the undead horrors guarding under Riven Roar, which is the place the goblinoids are holding out. He drew us a map to get to the hold of Riven Roar.

We were allowed to stock up a little and Private Chuma Nuzzov supplies us with ammunition.

We began our journey to Riven Roar immediately and expected to be there by nightfall. Unfortunately we got lost a couple times on the way (so far). We encountered four kruthiks, 2 small, 2 medium (and later 4 very small came out to fight). We battled them and won, but it was a hard fight and we may have to rest before continuing on...
